Türkiye to gradually hand over Bashiqa-Zilkan base to Iraq

Türkiye's Defense Ministry announced a gradual handover of the Bashiqa-Zilkan military base to Iraq under an agreed mechanism and timeline. This marks a notable shift in Türkiye's long-standing military footprint in northern Iraq, though details on the timeline and conditions remain unspecified. The move could signal improved bilateral relations and reduced Turkish military presence in the region.
