Brazil STJ expands evidentiary standards for social security grace period extensions

The Superior Tribunal de Justiça (STJ) ruled that involuntary unemployment, used to extend social security coverage, can be proven through diverse evidence beyond formal Ministry of Labor registration. While this lowers the barrier for claimants, the court clarified that a lack of employment records alone is insufficient to establish eligibility.
