Wildfires threaten Bordeaux as pyrocumulonimbus activity complicates containment efforts

French authorities have convened an emergency cabinet meeting as wildfires approach the Bordeaux metropolitan area amid an intense heatwave. The emergence of pyrocumulonimbus clouds—referred to as 'dragons among the clouds'—is creating localized storm conditions that threaten to spread fire via lightning and erratic wind gusts. Similar conditions are impacting Spain, where at least one fatality has been reported.
