European Commission demands fiscal offsets from Romania prior to salary law adoption

The European Commission has requested that the Romanian government identify compensatory fiscal measures to cover a budget deficit exceeding the initial 8 billion lei projection for a new salary law. The proposal includes extending health insurance contributions (CASS) to pensions to secure 4 billion lei in revenue, with the EC insisting these measures be legislated before or concurrently with the salary bill.
