Human-brain chimeric mice created to model neuropsychiatric disease

Romanian researcher Sergiu Pașca's lab has engineered mice with brains composed of roughly half human tissue, enabling study of conditions like schizophrenia, epilepsy, and rare dementias. The advance is a proof-of-concept for human-brain chimeras, though therapeutic applications remain distant and unproven. This marks a notable step in disease modeling but does not yet constitute a treatment breakthrough.
