US Army to Execute Fort Hood Shooter Hasan by Firing Squad, First in Century

The Pentagon has scheduled the execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, the Army psychiatrist convicted for the 2009 Fort Hood shooting that killed 13, for December 3. The method—firing squad—marks a return to a practice unused in the U.S. for over a century, and the execution will be public and broadcast live. This unusual choice and transparency raise legal and ethical questions, and the event is likely to draw significant domestic and international attention.
