Fishways completed on Tengeliönjoki river, restoring access to 1,000km of waterways in Lapland

New fishways have been constructed on the Tengeliönjoki tributary, ending a century-long blockade of migratory routes in the Tornionjoki river system. While physical connectivity is restored, the long-term ecological success remains uncertain as it depends on the actual return of migratory fish populations to these upstream habitats.
