Makhanda water crisis persists as treatment plant upgrades remain incomplete
Daily MaverickLO·ZA·about 5 hours ago
The dredging contract securing water supply for the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant expired on 30 August and has not been renewed, leaving critical equipment idle despite record-low Danube levels in September. No government decision has been issued to continue riverbed works, and authorities have not explained the lapse. This raises the risk of cooling-water shortages at the plant, which supplies a significant share of Romania's electricity.
