ICC issues arrest warrants for Taliban leaders over gender persecution
NRKLO·AF · NL·2 days ago
The ICC unsealed arrest warrants for Taliban supreme leader Haibatullah Akhundzada, chief justice Abdul Hakim Haqqani, and two other senior officials over alleged crimes against humanity, including persecution of women and girls. Kabul has rejected the warrants, asserting no association with the court. The development marks the first ICC action against Taliban leadership since the 2021 takeover, but enforcement is highly unlikely given the Taliban's control of Afghanistan.
