Cusco forest fires: 60 in nine days, 5 dead, 8,000 ha burned

Peru's Cusco region has recorded 60 forest fires in nine days, with five deaths, over 8,000 hectares affected, and 31 homes destroyed this year. The regional emergency operations center (COER) reports five active incidents and warns that dry, windy conditions are fueling spread. Firefighters warn of staff shortages, which may hamper containment efforts.
