University of Utah researchers used electromagnetic, magnetic surveys, and drilling to detect a potentially vast freshwater deposit beneath the Great Salt Lake's sediments, some possibly thousands of years old. The total volume and extractability without ecological damage remain unquantified, raising implications for water resource management in the arid U.S. West.
