Austria to restructure military service into three-block model starting 2027

Austria is transitioning to a mandatory nine-month military service model consisting of six months of basic training and three months of exercises. Minister Claudia Bauer signaled that the current voluntary extension for civilian service will likely become mandatory in the near future to align with the new defense structure.
