Israel attempts to kill Hamas Gaza chief in strike killing five on Oct 7 anniversary

Israel conducted a pre-dawn airstrike on an apartment in Gaza targeting Hamas's top leader in the Strip, killing five people including four women, according to local officials. The strike, on the Jewish-calendar anniversary of the October 7, 2023 attack, marks a significant escalation in targeted killings amid the ongoing conflict. The success of the strike and the identity of the target remain unconfirmed, but the timing signals deliberate symbolic intent.
