Brussels study: Queer safety in public spaces tied to presence of groups, not infrastructure

A PhD study by Charlotte van Vessem finds that LGBTQI+ individuals' sense of safety in Brussels' public spaces and transit is shaped more by which groups are present and social interactions than by lighting or infrastructure. The finding challenges common urban safety assumptions, though it is based on qualitative self-reports and not yet peer-reviewed.
