Kyiv under ballistic missile attack; mayor urges shelter

Russia and Ukraine conducted reciprocal missile and drone strikes on their respective capitals, Kyiv and Moscow, hours after diplomatic signals from both sides indicated openness to US-mediated negotiations. This exchange, occurring concurrently with a US envoy's visit to Moscow, suggests a significant disconnect between stated diplomatic intentions and ongoing military actions, or internal opposition to de-escalation. The strikes resulted in civilian casualties and infrastructure damage, underscoring continued high-intensity conflict.
