Witkoff presses Putin on trilateral talks; Russia frees U.S. detainee

White House envoy Steve Witkoff met Putin in St. Petersburg to propose resuming trilateral Russia-Ukraine-U.S. peace talks, following U.S. sanctions relief on Russian diesel. Russia released U.S. citizen Stephen Hubbard ahead of the meeting, a goodwill gesture. The proposal's acceptance is uncertain, but the sanctions concession signals U.S. willingness to compromise.
